(Some of the information and artist's name will appear after an artwork if I feel that it was interesting or I wanted to explore further.) I tried to take as much photos as I could before my battery died and some installations didn't allow photos, but I still got as much as I could. I was very glad to have gotten to seen the designer fashion gowns inspired by Italian Renaissance art. Some of the gowns had a gladiator-style to them, yet it was made of chiffon, silk, sequin, and tulle.
The designs were very traditional yet it was modern because of the bright colors. It also seemed to tell a story from the Italian culture back then. I believed a lot of the intricate details made on old artworks or derived from history has a lot to do with their lifestyle, culture, and religious connotations.
The exhibitions I favored the most out of the whole museum were the modern contemporary and Japanese exhibitions. I felt that it was visually more engaging and interesting. I tend to gravitate towards the design aspect and visual aesthetics even though exploring and discovering the underlying meanings and purpose for an artwork can be fulfilling and enlightening, ultimately, I feel that my first impressions of an artwork is also very important. Japanese art carries a lot of history and modern creativity to their culture, they maintain it gracefully. A lot of the modern contemporary art were based on architecture and furniture designs. Many of the art now relies on trying to improve or enhance our way of life whereas historical pieces relied more on storytelling and capturing the way of life back then. I have a different perspective on every exhibition as I walked through the museum. Feel free to browse through the gallery, I thought this would be an excellent chance for students to see the exhibition without having to make an extra trip here to see it.
Thank you for posting these pictures. Every year I tell myself… “This year I am going to take a road trip to California and visit some museums”. It never happens. At least now I can see some of what I am missing out on. I recognize some of the images from other classes and am surprised at how diverse the LACMA exhibitions are.
